Jourdan Berry - Piano

I grew up in a music loving household. I have fond memories of my Dad playing the piano every Sunday morning as he waited for my mom and me to get ready for church. My parents met in church choir in Louisiana and were in the Hunter Street choir for my entire childhood. I was always around music and listening to Dino play my Dad’s favorite hymns. At the age of four I began taking piano lessons at preschool and by five I moved from the preschool music program to the Samford Preparatory Department where I took lessons under Dr. Moya Nordlund and Melodie King until I graduated High School. Since then I have continued to love playing the music I grew up learning and have played keyboard for the praise team at our previous church. I have found a passion for introducing kids to piano and reading music. I have had students go on to play in band and participate in show choirs at the Middle and High School level after learning the basics of piano, reading music, and music theory. I find particular enjoyment in teaching children how to read music and seeing them learn and grow as musicians. Whether or not they stay with piano or go on to experience music in a different way, it has brought me so much joy and I am excited to continue teaching kids at the Arts Academy!
