MONDAY CLASSES:
Intermediate/Advanced Painting and Drawing (Monday 10a-11a) This class is for students who are able to make decisions on what to paint, able to draw their ideas onto canvas, and willing to push themselves to do more and go beyond their current knowledge. Students in this class are self-driven and are either working on perfecting their skills in a certain genre of painting or are willing to try different ways of painting without fear. They are able to manage their time and be realistic in understanding how long a painting or drawing will take them. They have learned the discipline of how creating takes time. The instructor will help them come up with a plan for their semester in drawing/painting and guides them how to work their plan to completion. Prior art experience is required and new students must be approved by the instructor to be in this class. Maximum class size of 6 students.
Intermediate Painting and Drawing (Monday 11a-12p) Students have a basic understanding of acrylic painting and possess drawing skills. This class builds on fundamental painting/drawing skills already learned in a studio-like atmosphere with some structure and much creative freedom. Students learn to make decisions by choosing ideas and compositions for painting or drawings. Students must be able to work independently on paintings/drawings along with taking individual teacher guidance and instruction. The class explores mixing unique colors, creating more confident brush strokes, and helps the student to further his or her personal artistic style. The instructor will work with each student to determine another medium of choice (if interested in exploring another medium alongside or other than acrylic paint) and helps the student learn how to use that medium in a drawing or painting. The instructor will work with each student to help them explore genres of painting they are interested in and make a plan to learn how to make those interests come to fruition. Students must be in 5th grade or higher and have prior art experience. Maximum class size of 6 students.
Intro to Art K-3 (Monday 12p-1p) This group class is for students who are a younger elementary age and have had some or no experience with art. Students will learn about art history and famous artists, and engage in using different art mediums such as: watercolor, tempera paint, markers, colored pencils, oil pastels, air dry clay, and more. Art elements and principles of art will be taught—line, shape, pattern, color theory, texture, value, etc. Students will be given individual instruction in a group setting. The goal for this class is to introduce art to younger school-aged children and increase their confidence in expressing themselves through art and know how to use materials. Maximum class size of 10 students.
Art Club (Monday 3:30p-4:30p) This class is for students in grades 1-5 and engages them to use multiple art forms. This class is more structured and makes most things together as a class. Students are allowed to explore a range of mediums over time—painting with acrylic and watercolor, drawing on paper, working with mixed media, collage, air-dry clay, and more. Each week, students are invited into a new opportunity to express themselves creatively, try different techniques, and develop their artistic skills. This is a great class for students who are interested in making lots of different types of art. Free choice drawing time is at the end of each class if the project is completed during class time. Maximum class size of 12 students.
Intro to Painting and Drawing—Middle & High School (Monday 4:30p-5:30p) This course is for students interested in learning to paint or draw but haven’t taken many or any in-person classes. In this course, students will learn to mix colors, how to hold and use different paint brushes, work on drawing skills, and learn how to find inspiration for ideas and place them onto canvas. Acrylic is the medium of choice for this class. We will study different painters and learn their techniques. Students will work together as a class at first to practice simple painting techniques, mixing colors and drawing, accept and complete small painting challenges on paper and then progress to working on canvas. Building knowledge and confidence happens during these weekly painting activities that are doable and fun. Once students have a good understanding, the class moves together into a more creative freedom of choice by using the knowledge learned in earlier sessions. The final goal is to have a solid understanding of drawing and painting and be able to know how to start a painting on canvas on their own and enjoy the process from start to finish. Maximum class size of 10 students.

Art Explorations 1-2 (Tuesday 1:30p-2:30p) This group class occurs after co-op on Tuesdays for 1st-2nd graders. Elements of art, art history, and drawing/painting techniques are taught to give a solid foundation for budding artists. Weekly, we break down how to draw all types of things and learn where to begin on paper. Painting, drawing, cutting and pasting, working on craftsmanship in filling in the lines and finishing a piece of artwork are taught in this class. At the end of the semester, we focus on a world location. This semester, the focus is London, England. We study the elements of art in architecture of a well-known place in the world—how it came to be and how to make it. This class covers a lot and we have great fun in making all kinds of art. Maximum class size of 10 students.
Beginning Painting and Drawing (Tuesday 3:30p-4:30p) Students who have some or no painting and drawing skills are welcome in this class. Color theory, composition, linear perspective, visual perception, and spatial concepts are learned and emphasized throughout the course. Students receive individual instruction to encourage their creativity and individual expression. This class offers a studio-like atmosphere where we find ideas, make decisions on what to paint and practice layering acrylics on canvas. Adult Painting and Drawing (Tuesday 5:30p-6:30p) This class is kept small for a reason. It provides adults with individual instruction as well as class instruction throughout the entire course. Current returning students have a good knowledge of the basics of acrylic painting and drawing. New students joining this small class are integrated into the class as a whole. Time with the instructor to get new students up to a similar level with returning students is the goal for the first couple of weeks of class. We do one class painting by a current artist to learn layering and brush techniques. Students are then able to create a painting of choice in a studio-like atmosphere. Adults are taught basic drawing skills, learn about other artists’ styles, and are pushed to determine areas of interest that inspire them. Maximum class size of 5 students.
