Michelle Hyde - Piano, Exploring music

My music journey began in the preschool “angel” choir of the church where I grew up.  From that time (as far back as I can remember), I’ve loved music. I love all styles of music, and although I was trained classically as a pianist, my favorite is contemporary praise and worship music.  That being said, my goal in teaching is to foster and instill a love for music in my students.  And while I teach classically, I also incorporate in our lessons, the types of music that speaks to and inspires each student.  I believe that music truly is the universal language, created by God, and that He is drawn to us when we praise Him through it.

I began taking piano lessons in the fourth grade.  From the beginning, I loved practicing and perfecting my weekly assignments.  In middle school, I played with the Birmingham Jr Youth Symphony Orchestra.  In high school and throughout college, I studied with Sam Howard, Artist in Residence at Birmingham Southern College, and half of the well-known husband and wife piano duo, Hodgens and Howard.  I earned a degree in piano performance and have been teaching for 25 years.  I’m happily married to Danny Hyde and have 3 children.
